National Flag

The National Flag has two colours arranged in horizontal bands. The top bright red band and the bottom black band represent the following:

Bright red – The blood shed by Angolans in the battles fought against colonial oppression, for national liberty and in defence of the Homeland.

Black - The African continent.

The centre is composed of:

a section of a sprocket wheel, the symbol of workers and industrial production;

a machete, the symbol of peasants, agricultural production and armed struggle;

a star, the symbol of international solidarity and progress.

The sprocket wheel, the machete and the star, in yellow, represent the riches of the country.
